FUOYE VC Accused On Illegal Removal of Registrar

War has been declared on the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof Kayode Soremekun over ‘illegal’ removal of the university Registrar, Mr. Daniel Adeyemo, the only principal officer of Ekiti origin.

Agitating under the auspices of Ekiti Students and Youth Coalition, the body accused Soremekun of deploying tactics to victimize Ekiti indigenes, calling on the federal government to remove him in the interest of “justice, fairness and equity.”

They accused Soremekun of concocting allegations, bordering on sexual harassment and negligence of duty to nail Adeyemo , to give way for Mrs O. Fasakin, who hails from Ogun State, the same countryhome with Vice Chancellor to emerge the Acting Registrar.

However, Soremekun, who absolved himself of complicity in the scenario leading to Adeyemo’s tactical placement said only the Governing Council has the power to sack any Registrar and that such was beyond his purview.

Soremekun , who responded through the university’s spokesman, Geoffrey Bakji, clarified that he has no blame in the entire scenario leading to his (Adeyemo) present predicament.

At a press conference in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, ESYC Coordinator, Com. Sunday Asefon, said all the management positions in FUOYE are now being headed by Ogun indigenes, while the host state was technically consigned to a disadvantaged position.

He said: “The Pro Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Prof Saida Mabadeje hails from Lagos but married to Ogun person. The VC is from Ogun, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Fasina is from Ogun, Director of Administration, Mr.O. Odusaya, is from Ogun and the Acting Registrar Mrs. O. Fasakin, is from Ogun, the Acting Bursar, Mrs R. Akande is from Oyo but married to Ogun indigene.

“To further prove a clear case of conspiracy against Ekiti indigenes, majority of the principal officers named above are yet to be confirmed as staff of the university as their probation period is yet to be over.

“We therefore give the management , the governing council and the Federal Ministry of Education 21 days ultimatum to reverse Adeyemo’s removal, else we will take our protest from Ekiti to Abuja”, he added.

Asefon called on the FG to restructure the one-sided management structure in the university and conduct comprehensive probe into all the contracts awarded under Soremekun leadership.

The students’ leader also said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) must conduct forensic probe into the university’s finances, saying : “the recent contract for the furnishing of the new administration block was awarded to KODELAC Nigeria Ltd at the cost of N37m even when it had earlier been awarded to another firm at the
rate of N22m”, he alleged.

Soremekun described the allegations as malicious saying : “They must know that FUOYE is a federal institution , so, if they are contesting the composition of the principal officers, they should petition the Federal Character Commission.

“We have all the names of the firms that are executing contracts here, so let those raising these allegations point to the one that belongs to the VC”, he stated.
