West Ham and Crystal Palace have been put on alert, with Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud ready to leave the Emirates on loan, when the winter transfer window opens in January.
Giroud decided not to leave the Gunners in the summer, after manager Arsene Wenger brought in his compatriot, Alexandre Lacazette, in a record-breaking deal from Lyon.
The France international was close to joining Everton in a £40million transfer, until Wenger intervened.
However, Giroud’s World Cup place is now under threat, as the 31-year-old is not playing regular first-team football and has not started in the Premier League this season.
With a glut of forwards available to France coach Didier Deschamps, Giroud could miss next year’s tournament, which could be his last for the national team.
The striker’s wife Jennifer is also expecting their third child and they are settled in London, ruling out a switch to Merseyside.
“Olivier does not want to disturb and uproot his family.
“Ideally, he wants to stay but he needs football – there are options in London for him,” A source close to the situation told the UK Mirror.
